Things You Ought To Know Before Going For An X-Ray

How to Prepare for an X-Ray

Since most people will elect to take an x-ray at least once in their lifetime, a thorough understanding of how the procedure occurs is important, according to the Center for Diagnostic Imaging Miami.

“To adequately treat life-threatening ailments, most people will use an x-ray at some point to determine the scope of the disease,” remarked Dr. Godreau, Radiologist at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging. “So it is important to understand how to prepare for an exam.”

1. Consult with the physician

If the patient has skin sensitivity, they must first consult their doctor to make sure they can proceed with an x-ray. Additionally, pregnant and breastfeeding women must consult with a breast specialist in Miami before opting for an x-ray service.

2. Patients Should Always Wear Comfortable Shoes and Clothing

An x-ray procedure is much more comfortable when a patient wears comfortable loose clothing. During a procedure, a technician or radiologist may instruct the patient to partially or fully remove their clothes.

3. Determine Whether The Test Needs to be Done on an Empty Stomach

Some tests require an empty stomach, which is why those that do are generally performed in the morning for a patient’s convenience. This, however, does not preclude the drinking of water. A diagnostic imaging center may ask a patient to have a specific solution before undergoing the procedure, this may be in the form of an injectable tracer so that the test results are more clear.
